Adults with autistic symptoms and their families express an urgent need for homes that would suit their specific needs. In France, most of theses adults end up living their whole lives in either mental institutions or homes for severely handicaped individuals. Neither enables them to develop their abilities and find ways to live among others in their daily lives.
Hélène Médigue, founder of Les Maisons de Vincent, is developing new homes for adults who have autistic syndrom. These homes have strong interactions with agroecological and organic farms. Therefore, the new houses will meet two need at the same time: social needs of autistic adults and taking good care of human health and the planet.
A first house is soon to be opened in Mers Les Bains (northern France). Daily contact with nature and living within society is a key for long lasting well-being of autistic adults. Residents will have occupation at a farm and take part in the production and sales of local organic products.
